Condemnation of Violence and Terrorism by the Peruvian Episcopal Conference
On January 29, 1981, the Peruvian Episcopal Conference issued a statement at the conclusion of their annual assembly, which was the first following the onset of subversive actions in the country. The statement clearly condemned violence and terrorism, emphasizing the value of life and denouncing the destructive nature of violence. The Church also highlighted the importance of human rights and opposed repressive violence and impunity.
El 29 de enero de 1981, tras su Asamblea Episcopal anual, la Conferencia Episcopal Peruana emitió un comunicado donde condenó claramente la violencia y el terrorismo. La Iglesia rechazó de manera neta desde el inicio los actos de violencia cometidos por grupos subversivos, planteando el valor de la vida desde una reflexión bíblica y teológica, destacando el carácter destructivo y estéril de la violencia. Además, afirmó el valor de toda persona y su derecho a la vida e integridad física, señalando el carácter autoritario y antidemocrático de los grupos violentistas.
