  1. Prison Riots and Government Crackdown in Peru

    On June 18-19, militants of the PCP-SL rioted in three prisons: El Frontón, Lurigancho, and Santa Mónica. The riots coincided with the International Socialist Congress in Lima, drawing media attention. The Peruvian government, led by President García, ordered the military to suppress the riots, resulting in 244 deaths.
