CVR public hearings: Trujillo. September 2002
The public hearings of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR) were solemn, open sessions in which the commissioners received testimony from victims and witnesses of the acts of violence experienced during the Peruvian internal armed conflict 1980–2000. The opportunity to give testimony before the country is a public act of dignity and healing for the victims. This video shows the public hearings held in the city of Trujillo in September 2002, where testimony was presented by: Carlos Palacios Navarro, arbitrarily detained and tortured by anti-terrorism police officers; Guillermo Balladares Vega, detained and tortured by police officers; César Quispe Vega, detained and accused of terrorism by police officers; Graciela Espinoza Montesa, detained, tortured, and raped by police officers; relatives of Walter Camino López, murdered by SL members; Sixto Muñoz Torres, detained and tortured by army troops; police sub-officer Alfonso Salas, who was the victim of a terrorist attack by SL; Segundo Lozada Modragón, detained and tortured by police officers.
