CVR public hearings: Tingo María. August 2002
The public hearings of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR) were solemn, open sessions in which the commissioners received testimony from victims and witnesses of the acts of violence experienced during the Peruvian internal armed conflict 1980–2000. The opportunity to give testimony before the country is a public act of dignity and healing for the victims. This video shows the public hearings held in the city of Tingo María in August 2002, where testimony was presented by: relatives of Antonio Celis Malpartida, disappeared by army troops; relatives of Juan de la Cruz Núñez, disappeared by army troops; relatives of María Bravo Peña, disappeared by army and police personnel; relatives of Esaú Cajas, disappeared by army troops; relatives of farmers from Ucayali, some arbitrarily detained and others murdered by police officers; relatives of Rosa del Águila García, kidnapped and murdered by SL; National Police sub-officer José Vives Ángeles, attacked and left disabled by SL.
