Exhumations in Huarapite, Ayacucho.

A video showing the exhumation work at the mass graves of Huarapite, in Ayacucho. In April 1984, a Peruvian army convoy was attacked by a Sendero Luminoso column. The surviving soldiers managed to reach the Los Cabitos barracks and, after reporting the events, a large military contingent was organized to pursue the insurgents. The soldiers, seeking revenge, reached the community known as Niño Jesús de Huarapite and there unleashed their fury on the population: they raped women, murdered children and adults. In total, army troops massacred 26 people whom they accused of being terrorists, and subsequently buried them in a mass grave.
