The Death of Mamá Angélica Reminds Us Why Memory Will Always 'Offend' Some

Ten days before she died, on August 18, the Poder Judicial confirmed that in 1983 her son, Arquímedes Ascarza, had been disappeared by a group of soldiers from the Los Cabitos barracks (Ayacucho), where a crematory oven existed for carrying out extrajudicial executions. That day, the judges made her wait until 3:20 in the morning to hear the verdict.
