Mamá Angélica: My Hero

Without a doubt, Angélica Mendoza de Ascarza was one of those women who, against all odds in the world, believed in justice and fought for it. I will not recount what we all know: the story of the theft of her son Arquímedes; the relentless search, even among the dumping grounds for corpses; the permanent demand with her cross ("Thou shalt not kill") raised in her arms; the inexhaustible persistence of a Quechua-speaking woman who learned to express herself out loud in Spanish in order to protest and demand what was just. Today I want to emphasize that faith which this noble woman — from Ayacucho, from the highlands, Peruvian — had in justice. Published on September 5, 2017.
