Because the Search Still Continues: Notes on the Recent Passage of the Law on Disappeared Persons

The decision made in Congress — exempted from a preliminary committee report in the Justice and Human Rights Commission by agreement of the Junta de Portavoces — to approve the Law on the Search for Disappeared Persons during the period of violence 1980–2000 represents a transcendental shift in the approach the State has used over recent decades. In that regard, we would like to reflect, on the one hand, on the importance of responding effectively to the magnitude of the violence, and on the other, to propose certain limits to the work carried out.
