Media and Imaginaries: Gaps in Addressing Violence in Peru
This text addresses several issues that were little explored — or debates set aside — by the capital's media in the decade following the presentation of the Final Report of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (IF-CVR). The gaps and, conversely, the emphases seem to be explained by a prevailing centralist vision among opinion leaders and those who shape the news in Lima. They are also due to a different consideration given to the problems of the middle and upper classes compared to those of poor and rural sectors, geographically, socially, and culturally distant. A third equally important factor is political.
