A discussion that has not yet been seriously addressed by the authorities, since the capture of the leadership of Sendero Luminoso in 1992, is what to do in light of the imminent release of the organization's ringleaders. While Abimael Guzmán Reynoso, Elena Iparraguirre, María Pantoja Sánchez, and Laura Zambrano Padilla are serving life sentences, the same is not true of the remaining historical commanders of Sendero Luminoso.
