Political Violence and Representation of Spaces in "Retablo" by Julián Pérez
If we look at our history during the last two decades of the 20th century, we can see that 1980 was a year marked by two events of crucial importance: on one hand, democracy was restored with the election of Fernando Belaunde Terry (1980–1985), after a succession of military governments for just over a decade; and on the other hand, Shining Path began its armed actions with the burning of the ballot boxes in Chuschi (Ayacucho), the consequences of which were catastrophic from that point on.
