El Frontón Goes to Trial: The Prosecutor's Office Filed the Charges
One of the bloodiest and at the same time most emblematic events of human rights violations in Peru is the case of the El Frontón massacre, carried out on June 18 and 19, 1986. It is one of the most violent crimes with the most victims in a country with a long and dramatic list of such crimes; but at the same time, it is also an event that demonstrates with particular force the disregard for human life on the part of both Sendero Luminoso — which incited the prison riot — and the security forces that responded to the Senderista provocation with extreme violence.
