Shining Path Imprisoned
The trial against the leaders of Sendero Luminoso has included life sentences for Abimael Guzmán and three other leaders, as well as 25-year sentences for the majority. The latter opens the possibility that some of them may leave prison sooner or later. Note: Shining Path members such as Osmán Morote and Margot Liendo, detained since 1988, will be released in June of next year upon completing their full sentences.
