Public Prosecutor's Office Delivers Skeletal Remains in the Sachabamba Case
The Segunda Fiscalía Penal Supraprovincial of Ayacucho handed over the remains of nine victims in the Sachabamba case, a peasant community that was attacked 28 years ago by Sendero Luminoso. On August 8, 1984, a group of Shining Path members entered the community of Sachabamba, located in the district of Chiara, province of Huamanga, searching for local authorities, whom they burned alive along with their entire families inside their homes. In total, the Vega Colos, Bautista Llallahui, Padilla Cuba, and Fernández families — with an average of six to seven children per family — were murdered.
