Fujimori Gave the Order
With only a few days remaining before sentence is handed down against former president Alberto Fujimori (1990–2000) for the crimes of Barrios Altos and La Cantuta, the prosecutor in the case, Avelino Guillén, states that the defendant's responsibility has been thoroughly proven. In the trial, which began on December 10, 2007, 500 documentary pieces of evidence were presented, along with more than 60 witnesses and the journalistic record of nearly fifty statements by the former head of state, all proving that he authorized human rights violations as a method to combat alleged guerrillas — in many cases merely innocent civilians, said Guillén in an interview with IPS.
