Democracy and Information
The case of Frecuencia Latina shows us what happens when a mass-reach medium with the capacity to reach popular sectors, using the right to information, strips the authoritarian regime of its main adornments: the unblemished image of Armed Forces victorious after ten years of fighting terrorism, and that of Vladimiro Montesinos as an efficient adviser dedicated to his intelligence work and the fight against drug trafficking. What Canal Dos laid bare is the greatest secret of Fujimorism: the tutelary role of these same Armed Forces and this same adviser in the reproduction, and most recently the perpetuation, of the authoritarian regime.
