Alan García Questioned About Human Rights Case During His First Government
President Alan García testified this Friday about the killing of more than 100 alleged terrorists during a prison riot on a penal island in 1986, becoming the first sitting Peruvian head of state to be judicially questioned in a human rights violation case. The riot on El Frontón island, off Lima, broke out when Lima was hosting the Congress of the Socialist International, with Germany's Willy Brandt, France's Lionel Jospin, and Italy's Bettino Craxi among the guests.
