Neoliberalism and Genocide in the Fujimorist Regime
The implementation of neoliberalism during the government of President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2001) in Peru entailed the dismantling of the constitutional order, leading to the establishment of a dictatorship sustained with the support of the Armed Forces. The Fujimorist regime was prolonged through two re-elections, the first in 1995, the second in April 2000, in which corruption, fraud, and state terrorism prevailed. During this regime, Peruvians were dispossessed of their companies, stripped of their social rights and civil guarantees, and victims of a genocide that, according to the Comisión de la Verdad y la Reconciliación, caused the deaths of seventy thousand people.
