Persistent Inequalities and the Construction of a Pluricultural Country. Reflections from the CVR's Work.
The work of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR) revealed gaps whose existence we knew about, but whose dimensions and brutality very few had suspected. The most important gaps that operated during the years of the internal armed conflict are those between rich and poor; between Lima and the provinces; between the coast, the highlands, and the jungle; between criollos, mestizos, cholos, and indigenous peoples. Likewise, the work of the CVR confirmed the importance of two other gaps, whose significance had grown in the decades prior to the internal armed conflict: the generational gap and the gender gap.
