Peru: Human Rights and the Press
Peruvian society in the 1990s became a harsh critic of human rights violations by the security forces, following a period of relative tolerance during the first phase of the State's campaign — along with its main bodies — against the guerrillas and their brutal practices. This is the conclusion of a content analysis of the Lima newspapers El Comercio, Expreso, and La República for the period 1980–1995, concerning the problem of political violence and cases of human rights violations by the government sector, specifically the cases of extrajudicial executions and torture.
