MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND TUBAL LIGATIONS AND 500 VASECTOMIES WERE PERFORMED IN PUNO
EL COMERCIO of Lima reported last March 8 that approximately 2,117 tubal ligations and 515 vasectomies were performed at the so-called Health Festivals held in 1997 in the rural districts of the department of Puno by medical personnel of the Sub-region of Health, according to statistics from that office. During the family planning campaigns of 1997 in that region, it became known that 3,177 women of childbearing age opted for the use of intrauterine devices, 1,773 used contraceptive pills, 12,233 protect themselves from pregnancy through injectable contraceptives, and 1,656 plan their families using vaginal tablets.
