Forced Sterilizations in Peru: Women Await Justice. Although Impunity Borders on Crimes Against Humanity

The allegations of forced sterilizations made by various women and organizations in Peru over these years take on special significance in the efforts of a group of twelve Quechua-speaking peasant women from Anta. This is an emblematic event that highlights the courage of these women in the face of the rights violations of which they were victims — not only they, but thousands of poor, indigenous, and peasant Peruvian women. As is recalled, these forced sterilizations were perpetrated during 1996-2000, under the government of Alberto Fujimori
