Surprise and Grief in Uchiza

The times of terror and bloodshed seemed to be a thing of the past in Uchiza, a town now more concerned with its precarious economic situation. But the armed incursion on Friday, May 28th, by some fifty Senderistas into the main Plaza de Armas of the district has once again spread fear and uncertainty throughout the area. The attackers are believed to be members of the Sendero faction commanded by "Artemio" — something that was flagged months earlier in an intelligence report, without, apparently, the appropriate precautions being taken.
