The Bill Came Due

Since the historic July 18, 1977, there had not been such a broad mobilization — one that managed to overcome divisions and differences — under very different conditions from that year: today, unions and political parties are not at their best. Nevertheless, the outcry over empty pockets and protests against centralism and authoritarianism worked a miracle, mobilizing large sectors of citizens at the country's nerve centers: trade guilds, regional fronts, municipalities, intellectuals and artists, businesspeople, retirees and women, students and the unemployed.
