Expert in Seizing Buildings and Also in Kidnappings
In the final years of the military government, factory takeovers and violent confrontations were frequent. But Cromotex was an exceptional case. The union occupied the facilities on December 28, 1978, to prevent — they said — the owner from removing the machinery and artificially bankrupting the company. On February 4, 1979, a judge accompanied police to evict the factory. The workers, barricaded on the rooftops, responded with a shower of rocks and bricks, killing Captain Villón of the Assault Guard. The police response was fierce, and three workers were killed while several others were wounded. Published December 26, 1996.
