The Untouchable - Opinion Column
There is no case in Peru's contemporary history like that of Vladimiro Montesinos. The accusation made by Vaticano, corroborated by other witnesses in recent days, confirms the suspicions many have held for years about the activities of the strongman of the Servicio de Inteligencia Nacional. It cannot be said, then, that this is information that causes great surprise. The government's stubborn insistence not only on defending him but on preventing by any means any possibility of investigation only reinforces the doubts. Published in 1996.
