Innocents with a Face - Opinion Column

The passage of a law that will allow innocent people convicted or tried for terrorism to be freed is an important step toward beginning to remedy the very serious errors committed over the past four years. After a long period of judicial leniency, in which self-confessed terrorists were acquitted — or given negligible sentences — in 1992 the system swung to the opposite extreme, establishing the aberrant system of faceless judges who have convicted guilty and innocent alike almost indiscriminately.
