When Forgetting Does Harm
The outrage provoked by the Amnesty Law enacted on Thursday the 16th reached unforeseen levels, as reflected in an Apoyo S.A. poll. But that popular sentiment had equally unexpected counterparts, such as the attitude of judge Antonia Saquicuray, who declared the law inapplicable to the Barrios Altos case she was investigating. The 'sit-down protest' of last Friday in front of Congress, led by relatives, human rights activists, and students, will continue this Friday the 23rd with a march called by organizations and public figures, who will also promote a referendum to repeal Article 1 of the law.
