Why the Eye Weeps
Lika Mutal, the sculptor of the monument El Ojo que Llora, began writing the names of the victims of the internal war last February. She, together with a team of volunteers, wrote those names in black on smooth gray stone, and each of the 69,280 victims who lost their lives during the 20 years of violence is represented in the monument. "A slow and sad task accompanied by many dreams," Mutal tells me. "The project itself, the relationship with the victims — that is what revived my memories of another war." Published in 2005.
