Past, Present, and Future of Anti-Subversive Peasant Patrols in Junín, Peru (1990-2001)
In just over three decades, the social and political order in the Peruvian Andean region was modified time and again, seeking to build, on the ruins of the previous order, one that was qualitatively different. The first time was under the military led by General Juan Velasco Alvarado (1968-1975), carrying out an agrarian reform that distributed large tracts of land from the landowners among the peasants. The second time, the dynamics in the highlands sought to change through the construction of a new order born from the "people's war" waged by the Partido Comunista del Perú-Sendero Luminoso (1980-1993). Both the military and the PCP-SL failed in their attempts. (Introduction excerpt).
