Lima, at the End of the Shining Path

The red graffiti can still be made out — the hammer and sickle, the emblems of the PCP (Partido Comunista Peruano), the revolutionary slogans that decorated the walls. The paint only partially erased them. However, the communist flags, the six "Senderista" watchtowers that guarded the compound, and the children who marched to the tune of the Internationale have all disappeared. Nearly half the population fled the area. Now, right in the center of Raucana, stands a small barracks of the 39th Parachute Infantry Battalion. Published in 1995.
