Sendero Luminoso, the Maoist guerrilla organization that promised a river of blood to forge the path toward a world revolution, is sending signals of wanting to become a legal party with a parliamentary and "class-based" orientation. In a recording handed to a television news program, Sendero Luminoso's Comité Metropolitano states that the call for peace from its imprisoned leader, Abimael Guzmán, "is not a ruse to buy time, but a sincere intention and a correct revolutionary line."
