From "PISCITUMNA" to a HOLY GROUND
Last Friday, June 26, in the city of Ayacucho, while I was heading to buy my return ticket to Lima, I heard the moaning of a guitar and the nostalgic voice of a great friend, Abilio Soto Yupanqui, a musician and Ayacuchan folklorist, who was on the stage of a radio telethon making his quru guitarra (hollow guitar) vibrate, joining the campaign "Solidarity and Justice for Putis: Help Us Build Our Campo Santo," in the María Parado Bellido park, in front of the old Ayacucho prison. The event was organized by the Asociación Paz y Esperanza, the Consorcio Projur, and the Comisión Multisectorial para la Reconstrucción de Putis. Additionally, at the event one could see various people sadly looking at the photographic and artistic exhibition on political violence; there were bags of cement and bricks donated by the public, and a booth where people came to contribute money according to their means.
