Shining Path and Education
Sendero Luminoso's link to education is not coincidental. One first way to study it is through its history: seeing how Sendero, from its origins in the 1960s, was strongly tied to work within the university and the teaching profession; and how its practice led it away from union sectors — workers, peasants, neighborhood organizations — up until the start of the systematic use of violence in 1980.
