Resurrection after the Barbarism
The old woman opens the door and out come, startled, two dogs and the memories of a man who has not been home for 19 years. The dogs are guardians of the ruins of a home that no longer exists. A dusty, empty space must have been the living room; the soot on the walls reveals what was once a family kitchen; that sad, dark room must have been the bedroom; there is also a garden where prickly pears and avocado trees survive, stubborn, like the old woman who now dries her tears with her skirt.
