The Taking of Vizcatán
A real war has been waged in Vizcatán, the impregnable Shining Path stronghold in the Valle de los Ríos Apurímac-Ene (VRAE). The battle has two sides facing each other: the Armed Forces and the Police on one side, and what remains of Sendero Luminoso on the other. As this edition went to press, there were already about twenty wounded and five dead. Published September 25, 2009.
