Sendero Luminoso (also known as Partido Comunista del Perú - Sendero Luminoso, PCP-SL) was a Peruvian terrorist organization with a Marxist, Leninist, Maoist ideology. Sendero Luminoso's goal was to replace Peruvian institutions with a revolutionary-peasant-communist regime, presumably beginning through the Maoist concept of "New Democracy." Since the capture of its leader, Abimael Guzmán Reynoso, in 1992, the remnants of Sendero Luminoso have become allies of drug trafficking.
