Dolores Morales de Santiváñez: Selection of Poetry, 1975-2005

The poetic work of Roger Santiváñez is on full "militant" display in many of the poems gathered in this volume, which refer viscerally both to the repression exercised by the military governments of the 1970s and to the political violence that affected the country during the years 1980 to 2000. Poems such as Lima, Baja presion, homenaje a Ernesto Che Guevara, and Reyes en el caos bear witness to this exercise of memory and rage by the poet born in Piura in 1956. "In the dream of the girls, who descend with their wounded and dazzling foreheads, like the desire of peoples marked by pain, the solitary ones go on learning." (Excerpt from the poem Homenaje a Ernesto Che Guevara).
