Antigone: Free Version of Sophocles' Tragedy
A free version of Sophocles' tragedy that can be read not only as a Greek tragedy but can also be extrapolated as an allegory to the violent times Peru experienced during the years 1980 to 2000. Watanabe makes us see in Antigona the consequences of war and how these can lacerate not only the body but also the soul. Marco Martos notes in the prologue that this theatrical piece brings the dramatic poetry that both spectators and readers had been waiting for, and specifies that alongside the theme of human law confronting divine law, it enters into the matter of guilt — that painful meditation on what was not done, or was done badly, or the indifference in the face of events.
