Aftermath of Political Violence
The efforts of the Defensoría del Pueblo have also been directed toward understanding the situation of victims caused by the actions of terrorist groups and the main problems faced by their survivors. In this regard, it has been of particular interest to understand the situation of members of the rondas campesinas and self-defense committees, as well as the situation of local authorities, civil servants and public employees, members of the Policía Nacional, and members of the Armed Forces who were victims of terrorism. This compilation of Defensoría resolutions reflects this ongoing concern of the Defensoría del Pueblo. It presents: the situation of innocent people in prison; the situation of those unjustly wanted for terrorism; the situation of repentant prisoners deprived of liberty and the need to extend the compensatory benefits for members of the rondas campesinas and self-defense committees who were victims of terrorism. The gathering of these resolutions will be useful and will contribute to the peace and reconciliation efforts toward which all Peruvians must be directed. (Excerpt from the presentation).
