Peru. Amnesty International Document

This document is part of Amnesty International's global campaign for the international protection of human rights. Thousands of people around the world are in prison because of their convictions. Many are held without having been charged or brought to trial. Torture and executions are widespread. Men, women, and children have disappeared in many countries after being officially detained, while others have been killed without any semblance of legality — selected and murdered by agents of their own governments. Amnesty International is impartial. It does not support or oppose any government or political system, nor does it necessarily support or oppose the views of the prisoners whose rights it seeks to protect. Its sole concern is the protection of the human rights at stake in each case, regardless of the ideology of the government or the convictions of the victims. (Excerpt from the preface).
