Press and Military Option. Hostages in the House of the Rising Sun

The credibility of journalism has faced a trial by fire in one of the most regrettable and striking episodes in the history of the Peruvian press: the takeover of the Japanese Ambassador's residence by the Movimiento Revolucionario Túpac Amaru. The most diverse comments have been made about this episode, above all political ones, but few have referred to the role played by the media. This latter point reveals the true importance of this work. The book "Prensa y opción militar. Rehenes en la casa del sol naciente" is the product of a credible and exhaustive review of the journalistic coverage, national and foreign, from December 17, 1996 to April 22, 1997. It is therefore an investigation into the "media" during the 126 days that the takeover of the Japanese Ambassador's residence in Lima, Peru lasted, into the role that fell to journalism, and into its vicissitudes and frustrations.
