Reconciliation in Peru. Conditions and Challenges
The instituto Bartolomé de las Casas organized in August 2006 the international seminar: Conditions for Achieving Reconciliation in Peru. This was a gathering of analysts from various disciplines who, from different angles, helped us map the multiple coordinates encompassed by the issue of reconciliation, on the understanding that it calls for the establishment of a new social pact among Peruvian men and women in order to restore the fractured political community. During those days we became somewhat more aware of the enormous material and mental distances we still have to cover in order to advance in this direction, but at the same time we felt encouraged because, being a society significantly damaged by the internal armed conflict, it can count on a way forward for its people. That way forward is reconciliation. (Excerpt from the introduction).
