Press and Political Violence (1980-1995). An Approach to Visions of Human Rights in Peru
This work offers an approach to the changes experienced in a significant part of the views on political violence — and especially regarding human rights — constructed in Peru, highlighted by an important sector of the national press based on cases of extrajudicial executions and torture by the security forces that occurred in Peru during the period 1980–1995. It proposes, as a hypothesis, some analytical elements that allow an explanation of the transformations experienced and, finally, outlines some reflections and proposals regarding the role of the media in the construction of a culture of peace. The research, originally carried out for the elaboration of a postgraduate thesis, has had as its main axis the analysis of the discourses that a sector of the national press has elaborated regarding the violation of human rights by the State in the context of the internal war.
