Ronderos, the Eyes of the Night. Manual for Promoters of Peasant Patrols
To resolve social conflicts, the ronderos are a form of autonomous organization that arose from the communities' own needs. These organizations, whose origins some trace back to institutions existing in pre-Hispanic times, appeared in the form we know them today during the 1970s in the provinces of Chota and Bambamarca, in Cajamarca. Later, in the 1980s, their organization spread to other important areas of the country. This work contributes to knowledge of the rondas from the inside, so that we can better understand their emergence, their current challenges, the legal and organizational frameworks within which they operate, as well as the protection that human rights can offer to self-defense organizations in the country.
