How Hard It Is to Be God. The Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path and the Internal Armed Conflict in Peru: 1980-1999
This book is the result of a compilation of articles that Carlos Iván Degregori published between 1985 and 2004. His writings are nourished by his experience as a journalist during the years of the internal armed conflict, his studies as an anthropologist, and his personal experience as a student and professor at the Universidad Nacional San Cristóbal de Huamanga (UNSCH) and the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM). His life trajectory allowed him to have a complex and sensitive perspective on the internal armed conflict in Peru. In 2001 he joined the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR), which investigated the period of political violence (1980–2000). This experience deeply marked Carlos Iván Degregori; in a sense, the publication of this book is the product of his commitment to building a just society, one that is neither callous nor indifferent and that knows its history. A few months after the book was published, Carlos Iván passed away and left a legacy of convictions in the intellectual and human rights fields.
