The Enforced Disappearance of Persons in Peru (1980-1996)

For the Defensoría del Pueblo, the commitment to victims of enforced disappearance and to the Asociación Nacional de Familiares de Secuestrados, Detenidos y Desaparecidos en Zonas en Estado de Emergencia -ANFASEP bears its first fruits through this report. The report presents, for the first time, a nominal registry of disappeared persons based on complaints received by the Ministerio Público during the severe period of political violence experienced by our country. It also provides organized and systematized information on these complaints and on cases of extrajudicial executions handled by the Ministerio Público, in addition to presenting current testimonies from relatives of victims that illustrate the social, psychological, and economic aftermath they face as a result of the disappearance of their loved ones.
