The Working Group formed by the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR), the Defensoría del Pueblo, the Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos, and the Comité Internacional de la Cruz Roja undertook the humanitarian commitment to promote a joint initiative on disappeared persons with the aim of seeking information about individuals whose whereabouts are unknown as a consequence of the political violence experienced in the country between 1980 and November 2000. The joint initiative presented a preliminary list of disappeared persons with 7,613 verified cases, based on reports from the State (Ministerio Público, Defensoría del Pueblo) and from the member organizations of the Working Group.
