Where Forgetting Dwells. The Uses of Memory and the Crisis of the Social Movement in San Martín
This thesis aims to study the process of constructing collective memories, developed by different groups of actors in the San Martín region, regarding the crisis of the social movement and its relationship with political violence. In particular, we delve into the theoretical debates and discussions on both memory and social movements, taking into account the specificity of the Peruvian social historical process and the political-social dynamics of the San Martín region and the actions of social organizations. We also analyze the process of constructing shared memories about the social movement and its crisis, both from state actors and from civil society groups. We consider the purposes (uses) put forward when raising such memories and the strategies (instruments) of legitimation and transmission, identifying the predominant perspectives and exploring the possibilities of overcoming the current social fragmentation.
