Warmikuna Yuyariniku. Violence Against Women During the Internal Armed Conflict

The number of cases reported for sexual violence between 1980 and 2000, involving military, police, and subversive personnel, was undoubtedly minimal in relation to what is known today. Despite this, the estimated figures are but a pale reflection of what has been a systematic practice of violence — additional to physical abuse understood as torture — against women: rape. "Warmikuna Yuyariniku" (Women Remember) pays tribute to all women who were victims of violations of their rights and also to those who continue to this day the tireless search for justice. Drawing on the findings of the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, we seek to understand what happened, who the perpetrators were, how the acts occurred, and who the accomplices, indifferent parties, or permissive bystanders were in the face of these crimes.
